Business Requirement:
Two Way were in the process of relocating their business and were currently running most of their operation from their own data centre at the existing premises. In order to cut costs and increase efficiency, Two Way asked First Focus to assist with their office re-location project consisting of three major phases: First, their interactive application infrastructure was to be consolidated and re-organised. Second, this infrastructure was to be re-located to an enterprise data centre in a single evening with a minimal outage window. Finally, the local-area network infrastructure was to be re-located to new premises.
The Solution:
After a detailed analysis of the requirements, First Focus developed a project plan to meet all requirements on time and within budget.
After backing up all the servers and devices, First Focus commenced migrating numerous individual Solaris and Windows servers over to a Blade System and SAN backend. Our migration tools allowed server images to be backed up and migrated quickly and effectively, with no downtime, and an easy post implementation test cycle.
At the same time, our co-location team provisioned a new cabinet in our Mascot data centre, programming switches and routers to reflect the new business requirements, and thoroughly testing the networking prior to the installation of the blade and other systems.
We also installed brand new LAN and server infrastructure at their new premises configuring file, print and MS Exchange services for their staff.
The Results:
Through a process of intelligent planning and requirements analysis First Focus was able to achieve all project objectives on-time and within budget. Several different specialist staff were engaged simultaneously to work on different areas of the project from cabling to networking to email configuration. 6 full racks of equipment were consolidated down to a single rack, and the infrastructure is now far simpler to manage, upgrade and extend. The LAN environment is also more powerful and feature rich, yet easier to work with and maintain. Hosting and support costs have been slashed, yet overall functionality and reliability have improved across the board.
"I am very pleased with the outcome. The solution proposed was practical and executed effectively. We have been able to reduce our overall operating costs without sacrificing functionality or quality of service. The enthusiasm and committed from the First Focus team was outstanding. We have continued to engage First Focus to provide ongoing support which has work well as part of our wider outsourcing strategy."
