First Focus rolls out new e-waste recycling service

First Focus has partnered with Shred-X to offer clients a secure and eco-friendly disposal service for outdated IT equipment.

Shred-X is a leader in the secure destruction market, specialising in the confidential disposal of sensitive data with environmentally-conscious processes. Their services encompass recycling and repurposing solutions for various products, including e-waste and office accessories.

What’s involved?

The processes involve a strict Quality Assurance program with NAID AAA-certified sites that comply with or exceed all federally mandated guidelines for secure destruction. This program ensures that Shred-X recycles all electronic waste per international environmental and ethical specifications. Data is stripped from all e-waste before it is recycled or repurposed, ensuring compliance with the Australian Privacy Act and ISO 27001 Information Security Management.

The intent behind this partnership is threefold:

  1. To ensure no e-waste ends up in landfill
  2. To reduce e-waste at client sites and First Focus offices
  3. To protect customers from information security breaches when disposing of e-waste

Why use environmentally conscious e-waste disposal?

Every office has unofficial “e-waste” corners that take up space in corridors, warehouses or spare rooms. The partnership with Shred-X aims to reduce this occurrence.

These efforts tie in with First Focus’s recent ISO certification – particularly ISO 14001 Environment Management and ISO 27001 Information Security Management.

ISO 14001 relates to environmental systems management. With the new partnership, First Focus aims to recycle and repurpose upwards of two tonnes of e-waste per year while pushing towards a net-zero carbon footprint.

The ISO 27001 certification relates to information security systems management. By partnering with Shred-X, First Focus ensures the secure destruction of potentially sensitive client data, helping them mitigate the risks of a data breach.
